The band needs YOU to run for a spot on the board!

There are 7 board positions (not including past president, which is not an elected position), and the members are elected annually.  Every seat is open every year, and each board member must be elected each year.  In other words, no one currently sitting is "automatically" on the board next year - we all have to be elected.

DON'T BE INTIMIDATED!  No special skills are required for any position; just a willingness to serve.  This is a fantastic chance to be more involved with the band and to help out an organization you're already very committed to.

The board positions are:

The president sets the direction for the Band and the Board, oversees the activities of the Board and the officers, presides at meetings of the Board and of the members, sees that orders and resolutions of the Board are carried into effect, and oversees the booking and production of concerts.
Current Nominee(s) for the 2018-19 season:
Julie McLeod (trombone)

Vice President
The vice president is responsible for the general management of the business of the Band and performs the duties of the President in the absence of the President.
Current Nominee(s) for the 2018-19 season:
Erica Orton (bass clarinet)
Karen Grivna (Bb clarinet)

The treasurer keeps accurate financial records for the Band, develops and maintains the Band’s budget, and periodically provides reports to the Board on the status of the Band’s finances.
Current Nominee(s) for the 2018-19 season:
Jeannette Nelson (oboe)

The secretary maintains all non-financial records for the Band and drafts minutes of all Board and member meetings.
Current Nominee(s) for the 2018-19 season:
Ann Buck (flute)
Colleen Woyach (alto sax)

Director of Communications
The director of communications maintains a unified voice and brand for the Band, oversees external print and online communications, and maintains donor communication and development.
Current Nominee(s) for the 2018-19 season:
Marjie Simon (percussion)
Sara Morrissey (bass clarinet)

Director of Logistics
The director of logistics changes the light bulbs.  JUST KIDDING.  The director of logistics supervises the logistical needs of the Band, maintains the relationship with the rehearsal and equipment storage facility, and maintains and ensures readiness of Band property including but not limited to the library, instruments, and non-instrument property.
Current Nominee(s) for the 2018-19 season:
Elisabeth Hunt (bass clarinet)

This list is also available in the band's by laws ( If you're interested in running for any board position, please email  We will update this list as each person adds their name to the list of nominees. We'll have a vote at the annual meeting on June 5th, and you can nominate yourself or another person (smart to ask them first) right up until the time we vote.  If you have any questions, or would like to nominate yourself or someone else, please just let any board member know!!

Announcements - Week of April 27

  1. This Tuesday's rehearsal will be in the auditorium.  If you see an engineer, please thank him for installing the lights!
  2. Big Band rehearsal is at 6:00 downstairs, full band is at 7:00 upstairs.
  3. Tedd's server is still down, and he is unfortunately unable to post to the blog.  He told me that tonight he plans to rehearse the Pops concert in the first hour and Bandwidth after the break.
  4. Bandwidth is this Sunday 5/3 (a separate email was sent for that) and our Pops concert is next Tuesday 5/5.  For the pops concert, call time is 6:30.  Dress is all black.  If you are able to arrive early and unload the percussion trailer it would be very helpful.
  5. It is time for the annual band survey.  At only 4 multiple choice questions, this year's survey is short and sweet.  If you have a lot to say, there is an option for open writing as well. Please make every effort to complete the survey, as the band's collective voice is very important to the board, and these surveys are referenced often for decision making.
  6. Our final rehearsal at Jefferson for the season is Tuesday, June 2.  We will hold our annual band meeting, including elections, during half of this rehearsal.
  7. Elections - Are you interested in a deeper participation in the leadership of CICB?  Please consider running for a board position!  An email with position descriptions will follow.  If you are interested in participating next year, please let a board member know!
  8. Percussion trailer - We are in dire need of a long-term solution for storage of our percussion trailer.  If you or someone who you know has space where a 13.5'x7'x6.5' trailer may be stored through the year, please contact a board member asap.

Thanks everyone!
