Julie McLeod, President

Julie (trombone) joined the City of Lakes Community Band in  2010. In 5th grade she was assigned to play trombone after not being able to make a noise on any other instrument, and hasn't looked back since. Julie played trombone in concert and marching bands throughout high school and at Boston College while earning her degree in secondary education and history. Julie currently works as a project manager at ServeMinnesota, a nonprofit organization that works with AmeriCorps members and community partners to meet critical needs throughout Minnesota.


 

Erica Orton, Vice President

Erica (bass clarinet) joined the City of Lakes Community Band in 2010.  She attended the University of Minnesota where she played Bb clarinet in the University bands.  She switched to bass clarinet in 2013.  She especially enjoys movie music and showtunes!  When Erica is not playing the bass clarinet, she works for the Bush Foundation in St. Paul as their Learning & Evaluation Manager.


 

Jeanette Nelson, Treasurer

Jeanette (oboe, English horn, Eb Clarinet), has been a member of CLCB since around 1997.  She is employed since 2002 as the Financial Controller at Classic Provisions, a specialty foods distributor.  She has served the band in many capacities over the years including Librarian and President.  Musically, she played 1st chair clarinet in high school, played clarinet in the University of Minnesota concert band in college (while obtaining a degree in Accounting), and took private lessons around the year 2000 to learn Oboe and cover a part that was sporatic on the CICB member roster.  Other musical endeavors include singing shaped note hymnal music (Sacred Harp 4 part accapella), Rise up Singing folk song circles, Klezmer/Gypsy (a member of the band Mazel Tov Cocktail (clarinet and String Bass)), Cajun jams (string bass, rhythm fiddle), Gamelan, and the list goes on.


 

Ann Buck, Secretary

Ann (flute) joined the Calhoun-Isles Community Band in 1993. 


 

Margie Simon, Director of Communications

Margie (percussion) joined the City of Lakes Community Band in 2014. Margie is the percussion section leader and has a dual background in both music education and communications. She graduated from the College of St. Benedict/St. John’s University with a degree in music, and received her master’s in music education from the University of Northern Colorado. She taught music as a band director for 15 years at the high school and middle school levels. Her bands have won numerous awards. When vocal cord issues surfaced, Margie switched to a career in communications. She has won awards for her work at the international and state levels. She thrives on writing stories and working with the media. For fun, Margie loves anything outdoors, dogs, and reading. She has served as a volunteer usher for the Minnesota Orchestra for eight years.


 

Elisabeth Hunt, Director of Logistics

Elisabeth (bass clarinet) joined the City of Lakes Community Band in 2001. She is the member support and training director for Species360, a global database of captive wildlife.  She has previously served as the board's secretary and currently serves as the board's Logistics director. She also serves as  the band's webmaster.  She started clarinet in middle school in 1976 and played through high school and in the Calvin College Concert Band while earning her degree in biology.  She has continued playing in bands after graduation, performing in the Battle Creek Post Band, the Kellogg Community College Concert Band, and now the Calhoun-Isles Community band.


 

Mary Bjork, Past President

Mary (trombone) joined the City of Lakes Community Band in 2011. She has been playing trombone since 6th grade and originally chose it because it's the coolest looking instrument. Mary lives in South Minneapolis with her family, and she works at Cummins Power Systems, leading a project management team.
